Mountain Biking Through a Running Injury | Horse Butte Loop | Bend Oregon

by Chase Parnell — March 29, 2020

Some of you know that I jacked up my hamstring at the L.A. Marathon on March 8, 2020. I walk/jogged the second half to finish in 4:30ish. It. Was. Brutal. But thankfully, after two weeks totally off from running, I’m mentally and physically recovered enough to be back and jogging!

During those two weeks off, I hopped on the mountain bike to maintain some cardio fitness and promote blood flow to the injury. Turns out mountain biking is super fun. Duh, right? After all these years of living in mountain towns, I never once took a bike out on trails.

Even once my hamstring is fully healed, I plan to continue with 1-2 days of riding a week. I really feel the quad strength, which I think will be good for downhill running and the pounding from running generally.

Having a blast with it and the GoPro makes the footage semi-worth watching.
