The Descents Project | Episode 2 | Segment: 4601 Road Descent

by Chase Parnell — May 3, 2020

First off, let me just say that I’m having a ton of fun with this little project of mine. Each week I’ll go Strava segment CR hunting on a route I find interesting. I’ll take a swing and try to go fast, but really it’s more about getting outside, running routes I wouldn’t normally do, and trying to stay fit when there aren’t any races on the near horizon.

I’ve always been motivated by Strava segments but taking aim at specific records takes it to a whole new level. I think growing up doing track and field, the ticking clock is something that you never quite escape from. I know that I’d never push as hard as I did today without this type of time goal, so I’m thankful for the extra motivation to try hard.

The 4601 Road Descent is a segment that I actually had to create myself. For some reason my GPS didn’t get picked up for the segment route I was originally aiming for, but that’s okay, it wasn’t the best segment anyways. The one I created is a tad shorter and only covers the descent, from the final junction at the tower down to the end of the descent and stops promptly at the base.

I’m happy to share this route, video, and a look inside one of the great late-spring descents around Central Oregon! Hope you enjoy the scenery and my nerdy commentary. If you’re familiar with Central Oregon, let me know what segment I should go after next! I’m happy to answer any logistical questions and provide beta in any way I can.

Let me know if you’re going to take a crack at this segment. Or if this inspires you to charge down a hill in your local range, let me know that too!

Thanks for watching! And remember to subscribe to the channel. It helps us out a lot!
