The “Swipe Left Spring Trifecta” with Ryan Kaiser

by Chase Parnell — May 25, 2020

If you don’t know who Ryan Kaiser is, well, you haven’t been paying very close attention to the sport of ultra running over the last half dozen years. He’s a fellow Bendite, lawyer, and the guy knows how to have a good time (as you’ll see in the video).

This last week Ryan hit me up with the idea of running three renowned buttes in Central Oregon trail running: Grizzly Mountain, Gray Butte in Smith Rock State Park, and Black Butte. The three peaks are roughly on the same line latitudinally, cutting from east to west, so it somewhat made sense to try to hit all three in a day.

Honestly though, this wasn’t about some epic feat of endurance or anything; it was a big day but nothing crazy. It was more about just getting out, having fun, and sharing some trail time. To me, this is what this sport is all about!
